Apple Monochrome is designed to be completely compatible with all known bit depths on the Macintosh. It is based primarily on black and white, but in 8- and 4- bit colors, a dark gray is used for disabled items.
To install the Monochromes, drop them into your 'Kaleidoscope Color Schemes' folder, which is in the 'Extensions' folder, of the 'System Folder', on your start-up disk. Then open the Kaleidoscope control panel, and select either Apple Monochrome or Apple Monochrome Light in the scrolling list of schemes. To use the custom folders, you need to restart your Macintosh after selecting 'Apple Monochrome' (Kaleidoscope will give you an alert about custom folders).
Use of Contents
There are two versions of Apple Monochrome, normal and a Light version. The normal version is completely in black and white. This includes folder icons, and alert icons (stop, caution, and note icons). The Light version does not have any of the black and white icons, and has the bare minimum resources required in a Color Scheme.
The 'Desktop Patterns' folder contains a bunch of black-and-white desktop patterns. You simply drag them into the 'Desktop Patterns' window, and click 'Set Desktop'.
